Neuroscience or science of the brain constitutes an interdisciplinary way to understand the fine structure and the function of the human brain. This area has gained significant interest during the last decades, not only because of the basic knowledge that it generates but also because it promises improving our well being.

The average age and the size of our population have grown considerably in the last two decades; consequently pathologies of the mind have increased. Therefore it is not surprising that some disciplines that converge on Neuroscience like Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Neurogenetics, Biophysics, Pharmacology, Developmental Biology, Mathematics, Neurophysiology, Neuroanatomy, Neuropsiquiatry and the Cognitive Sciences in general, have had a high development in the last decades.

One of the most important challenges that science faces nowadays is to understand how the different levels of biological complexity work in order to create the cerebral functions.
